Weston suffers back-to-back defeats after Frome’s loss
Weston lost to Frome at home on Saturday in a match that saw the winners take first place in the WEPL Bristol & Somerset Prem Two rankings.
Frome won the toss and chose to beat, but Pete Trego struck early to take out Daniel Dredge, before Sam Croker and Paul Sanger set up a 169 partnership for the second wicket.
Sanger fell for a run-a-ball 109 to Chris Davidson (9-0-40-1), the first in a late flurry of wickets for Weston.
Trego, Matt Knight and Shabil Ahmed each took two wickets, but Sam Croker completed the 85 innings not taken out as Frome posted 235-7.
It was an achievable goal, but Weston’s batting lineup stuttered from the start.
You can also watch:
Reece Croker took 3-28 and Mark Sanger 3-55 as the wickets fell at regular intervals.
Jack Press got the best score with 37 and Davidson got 30, but the only significant partnership was for the final wicket as Knight scored 19 and Alex Leeks was not out.
Weston was eliminated for 188 points, a 46-point loss, and dropped to third in the standings, but just four points behind the new leaders.
Special mention must be made of Jack Trego, making his first-team debut and taking the hold that knocked out Paul Sanger.
Pete Trego also played superbly to reach the numbers of 9-1-33-2.
Weston will travel to Bishopston on Saturday, missing several of the usual members of the first team.
