Northern Trust Asset Management appoints co-head of fixed income

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) announced that Thomas Swaney has joined the firm today as Executive Vice President and Co-Head of Fixed Income for the $1.3 trillion global financial institution. dollars in assets under management, including $551 billion in fixed income securities, as of December 31, 2021.

Swaney will also share overall responsibility for oversight, including strategy, process and approach to the firm’s fixed income strategies, with fellow executive vice president and co-director fixed income Colin Robertson, a 35-year veteran in bond investment. Their joint roles are part of a succession plan that Robertson has worked closely with Angelo Manioudakis, NTAM’s chief investment officer, to prepare for his eventual retirement. No retirement date has been set.

Swaney brings a wealth of experience to this position, having held senior positions at several global financial firms during his 25-year career in investment management, including as Managing Partner of Lantern Harbor Investment Partners, an investment management firm. Boston-based institutional fixed-income investment he co-founded with Manioudakis. He has also held executive and senior portfolio management positions at Ellington Management Group, Amundi Asset Management, JP Morgan Asset Management, OFI Global Asset Management and Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

Swaney holds an MBA from Pennsylvania State University and a Masters in Finance from Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
