Northern Ireland Vaccine Certification App for International Travel to Go Live
The Ministry of Health’s vaccine certification application is about to go live.
Northern Ireland’s new ‘COVIDCertNI’ app will allow users to request and show proof of vaccination for international travel purposes only.
The app has been developed to meet EU and WHO standards, providing all the necessary information required, and includes a secure QR code, to allow verification of authenticity.
If you are traveling between July 26 and July 31, you can now request a certificate using either the existing NI Direct digital platform or you can now download the app from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. soon.
Health Minister Robin Swann said: “The Covid-19 has created many challenges since arriving on our shores last February, and our new digital tools have helped us respond to them. The COVIDCertNI app is the third new smartphone app produced by my department since last year.
“This will allow those traveling abroad to access their vaccination record and present a digital certificate. Considerable effort has gone into bringing this digital platform to this stage.
The DoH said the new service is likely to be popular, which could cause delays or issues in accessing the service – if you have any issues, wait a while before trying again.
Users are encouraged to download and use the app only if they are traveling through the end of July.
A vaccination certificate may be required for entry into some international countries, but is not a requirement for all countries and travelers should check the requirements of the country they intend to visit.
Mr Swann continued, “I urge the public to be patient for the next few days as the new process unfolds and only apply if you are traveling in the next few days / weeks. It has been a complex process with many challenges and I commend everyone involved for getting to this point. “
Travelers must still comply with testing and isolation requirements (if applicable) upon their return to Northern Ireland.
