Kings of Dribble – Two (TWO!) Newcastle United players top end of season PL stats
Very interesting end-of-season statistics in the Premier League for two Newcastle United players.
A recently updated table (see below) shows the most successful Premier League players when it comes to dribbling on Wednesday.
These statistics cover the entire 2020/21 Premier League season, data collected during the 38 rounds of matches.
A table has been published by ‘The other 14’ (which specializes in stats / tables etc on the 14 clubs that are not the ‘Big Six’) which shows the Premier League players who have been the most successful when it comes to dribbling:
Not surprisingly, Allan Saint-Maximin is part of the list, the ASM attempted 145 dribbles and succeeded 96 of them, for a success rate of 66.2 %%.
No doubt a surprise to many fans that another Newcastle player has an almost equal success rate this season when it comes to dribbling, Jacob Murphy said.
Supporting Newcastle United his entire life, Murphy has succeeded with 39 out of 63 dribbles in the Premier League this season (in 17 PL starts and 9 under-appearances), a success rate of 61.9%.
Jacob Murphy finds himself in a strange position, having only 36 days left from his current NUFC contract, despite ending the season as the first choice at right-back.
As an attacking full-back Murphy seems to really thrive, when the focus is on him driving forward and carrying the ball. These dribbling stats back that up, plus he scored that excellent goal at Burnley and showed his crossover quality for the Willock winner against Sheffield United last Wednesday.
With negative tactics and / or against a better team, as a full back I think Murphy is struggling.
I think Jacob Murphy is well worth another contract because he’s got something, especially with so little creativity / dribbling ability among the rest of these Newcastle United players.
