Jet2 increases flights to Madeira as Britons rush to book greenlist vacations
Jet2 has increased its flights to the Mediterranean islands of Madeira as Britons rush to book vacations on the green list.
Within the Portuguese Republic, mainland Portugal is on the Orange List, as are the Azores – but Madeira is on the Green List.
However, Madeira is at risk of being moved to amber, the government said, and is in fact on a green watch list where its Covid rates are closely monitored to see whether it should stay green or not.
This hasn’t deterred British holidaymakers from taking the opportunity to head there for a sun break.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said they had added more fall flights and packages to Madeira “in response to very high demand from customers and independent travel agents.”
Customers are flocking to book flights and vacations throughout the summer and into the fall, he said.
Being on the green list means there is no need to self-quarantine when returning to England.
To meet demand, more flights to Madeira were added in September and October from Birmingham Airport.
Additional Friday services during these months will mean two weekly flights to the destination.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “Madeira is in very high demand, thanks to the combination of its green list status and the fact that it is a fantastic destination for vacationers.
“It’s clear that the fall vacation is in demand this year, so we’ve responded to that trend by giving clients and independent travel agents even more choices in September and October.
“With so many flights to choose from, in addition to our award-winning service, we know these additional flights will sell very well and very quickly.”
Nuno Vale, Executive Director of Madeira Promotion Bureau, said: “We are delighted to see how the UK market is reacting in Madeira. The increase in the capacity of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is a response to the high demand and makes us very excited for the near future.
“We are proud of what we have accomplished so far, keeping the destination safe and providing people with a true vacation experience.
“After more than a year of the pandemic, we just want people to live Madeira to the fullest. Madeira is a perfect post-pandemic holiday retreat with fantastic weather all year round, verdant nature overlooking a warm blue ocean full of natural living. All of this is complemented by superb lifestyle facilities and hospitality from the locals. “
