“I feel good. It’s nice to be back in training with the guys and just playing, playing [with] the ball and be active, ”Matip said on the club’s website.
I feel really good right now. I have a lot of sessions in front of me but I feel good and I hope to continue like this.
“Training camps are always intense but for those times we are here and these belong to the preseason and we are trying to take advantage of that.”
With no senior center-backs, youngsters Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams had to step up their efforts to lead Liverpool to third place.
A Champions League place seemed unlikely after a dismal form of fate saw Liverpool slide quickly up the Premier League rankings, but Matip was full of praise for his team-mates and their efforts under intense pressure.
“It was not a very good period for me, a lot of injuries, but I can only go ahead and try to do my best and try to be in the best possible shape,” said he declared.
“They did well! They were thrown and their performance was really great, especially under that kind of pressure. They have done really well.

Liverpool’s competitive season kicks off against newly promoted side Norwich City on August 14.
The Reds will desperately need a good start after a weak title defense last season, with Jurgen Klopp considering a few new additions to the squad.
Liverpool have already signed Ibrahima Konate and the center-back could immediately have a chance at the heart of the defense.
