Two members of the Welham Green, Hertfordshire, Pexhurst-based design and renovation contractors team each completed a 55-mile virtual bike ride, raising funds for Battersea, the leading animal welfare charity.
Michelle Matthews, receptionist and administrator and Maria Demetriou, management systems administrator, settled into their living room, walking an extended virtual route from London to Brighton over a period of seven days, raising a total of £ 330, exceeding their goal of £ 250.
Speaking of the challenge, Michelle said, “It was a lot of fun.
“I set myself a target distance of 7.8 miles and made sure to hit it every night before allowing myself to have dinner and relax. Whenever I have struggled to go the distance, I found that imagining the dogs and cats that needed our help kept me motivated. “
Like other charities, Battersea has been significantly affected by the challenges of fundraising in the wake of the pandemic. Pets, cats and dogs in particular, have played a major role in keeping everyone’s morale up during the multiple closures and long periods of social distancing.
Good news from Hertfordshire:
This is just one way to say thank you by raising money for a good cause. Now, with the easing of lockdown restrictions, there could be a potential increase in the number of abandoned animals, and charities like Battersea are always available to help any pet owner who may be struggling to cope. his dog or his cat.
Emily Hugo, Senior Fundraiser, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, said, “Battersea relies on the generosity of the public to help us continue to be there for every dog and cat.
“The money raised from this 55 mile virtual bike ride will help provide essential care for Battersea’s dogs and cats until we find them loving new homes.
“We are incredibly grateful to Michelle and Maria from Pexhurst for raising funds for Battersea and all those who generously supported them with their virtual bike ride from London to Brighton. Kudos to all the dogs, cats and humans in Battersea for taking up the challenge.
