Lidl Northern Ireland unveiled its new ‘Concept’ Omagh store after a seven-month construction project to more than double the original outlet.
Occupying an 8,029 square meter site – including a sprawling 1,420 square meter retail area – the expanded store has created an additional 15 new permanent retail positions, supported an additional 200 jobs during the construction and development phase and offers buyers more floor space.
Built with sustainability in mind, the high-tech store on James Street also includes energy-efficient lighting and two electric vehicle charging spaces in its 95-space parking lot.
Local music legends Cliona Hagan and Barry Kirwan brought a bit of country to the grand opening, and shoppers turned out in droves to tour the store and meet the country stars.
Internationally acclaimed country singer Cliona Hagan, from Ballinderry, said: ‘I am delighted to be here this morning to launch the brand new Lidl Northern Ireland store in my home county and chat with the long queue customers who showed up for the store opening. No matter where in the world I perform, I always say that nothing quite matches the atmosphere when I perform in front of a local audience. It was great to have the chance to meet and greet local fans who have supported me throughout my music career while celebrating a very positive day for the city. As a Lidl shopper myself, it’s great to have this modern – not to say huge – new store now open and I wish the local Lidl team every success.
Omagh country music legend and former Lidl NI Omagh store employee Barry Kirwan was also on hand to greet shoppers.
Barry explained: “During the pandemic when music gigs were cancelled, like everyone else I still had bills to pay and a family to support so I got a job at my local Lidl in Ireland North. I really enjoyed my time there, and as I’m from Omagh myself, being part of the James Street store team has been great as I get to see faces I recognize every day.
“I’ve been busy working the new store in Omagh getting it ready for the grand opening, to see it all fall into place, be part of the launch celebrations and get a chance this morning to play for the lovely clients I’ve met working for Lidl in Northern Ireland has been a great privilege, I couldn’t be happier to be back doing what I love – funny how things go on a loop! “
Sarah Law, Lidl NI Omagh Store Manager, added: “I am delighted to unveil the new look of the Lidl NI Omagh store and welcome shoppers to enjoy the new facilities. We are proud that the new store offers a modern, state-of-the-art shopping experience, and our Big on Quality, Lidl on Price offering that resonates so well with our customers, old and new.
