Ben Parker reacts as Leeds is linked with Newcastle star Freddie Woodman
Leeds are looking for a new replacement goalkeeper after Kiko Casilla was sent to Elche on a loan-to-buy deal. YEP reports claim there are three targets, including Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman. Ben Parker backed a move, with a new report now saying an offer has been made.
Casilla, who turns 35 in October, has joined Elche with two years remaining on his contract. Elche has the option of making an agreement permanent. That leaves Leeds with only Illan Meslier and rookie Elia Caprile as first-team options. Young Italian Caprile has yet to make his first-team debut for Leeds.
The YEP reports that Woodman is an option, having impressed on loan at Swansea the past two seasons. The England Under-20 World Cup champion is joined on the list by Levante’s Dani Cardenas and Valerenga’s youngster Kristoffer Klaesson. But Woodman looks like the front runner.
Leeds transfer news: what does Parker think of Woodman?
A report from The Chronicle now claims that while Celtic are enthusiastic, Leeds made a “cash offer” to sign Woodman earlier this week. It’s unclear how much Newcastle will want for him, but a previous report from Chronicle says he’s valued at £ 10million. Ben Parker gave his verdict on Woodman at LS11.
“I think we are going to sign a goalkeeper, we need that too”, Parker told the guys on LS11. “Caprile is a good goalkeeper for the future but he is young, he has not been tested. The three goalkeepers who have been tagged are also young. Woodman is the strongest name in terms of the rumor mill.
“I watched it for Swansea a few times. He’ll play our way, Swansea likes to play from behind. I thought we might have picked a goalie with more experience, someone over 30, but if we go that route I would be happy with Woodman. It is this competition for places.
